Bioluminescence in Cape Town

When the ocean starts to glow, you know you're in for a magical experience. That's exactly what happened when I saw bioluminescence in Kogelbay, South Africa. Watching the ocean light up with a mystical blue hue was surreal. It was like being transported to another world, one where the rules of physics and logic didn't apply

As you stand on the beach, you'll see an infinite mass of diatomaceous foam swirling around you, and it's made up of hundreds of thousands of microscopic plankton. These tiny organisms are responsible for producing light from nothing, thanks to the chemicals luciferin and luciferase. The result is a mystical blue wave that lights up as it crashes.

To increase your chances of success, plan your shoot during a new moon phase when the darkness provides the optimal conditions for visibility. Nighttime is the best time to head out to the location, as bioluminescent organisms are most visible in the dark. With patience and a little bit of luck, you can capture the magic of bioluminescence yourself!
